Using Imagening
Is Imagening free?
Your first 2 photos are free, with no account or card needed. Creating a free account adds 2 more credits. After that you can buy a pack of credits or subscribe; see pricing.
Do I need an account?
No. You can colorize your free photos without one. An account keeps your credits and recent photos together across devices.
How long does it take?
Usually 10 to 30 seconds a photo. Restoring and upscaling take a little longer. Turning a photo into a video takes about 2 to 3 minutes.
Are the colors historically accurate?
The colors are the AI's best guess from what's in the photo, so they look natural but aren't a record of the real colors. If you know a color, like a uniform, a car or someone's eyes, describe it in the color hints box and the colorizer uses it as a guide.
What kinds of photos work best?
Sharp, evenly lit photos with faces or scenes that fill the frame. For a print, scan it, or photograph it straight on in good light without glare. Very small, blurry or heavily damaged photos still work, but turn on Restore and repair first.
What files can I upload?
JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC photos, including photos straight from an iPhone. You can drag a file in, paste it, browse for it, or take a photo with your phone.
Why can't I colorize some photos?
For safety, photos of children and explicit images can't be colorized. You aren't charged when a photo is turned away.
Will restoring change faces?
It can. Restore and repair fixes damage, dust and worn detail by redrawing parts of the photo, which sometimes changes a face or small details. Compare the result with the original before you save it.
Am I charged if colorizing fails?
No. Credits are only used when you get a result.
Can I share a colorized photo?
Yes. Choose Share under your result to send a link. The person you send it to sees the photo before and after, without needing an account.
Can I turn a photo into a video?
Yes. After colorizing, choose Video to make a 5-second clip with gentle, natural movement for 10 credits. See examples.
Credits and payment
What is a credit?
A credit pays for work on one photo. A standard colorization is 1 credit, the advanced model is 2, and restoring damage or upscaling adds 1 each. The most a single photo can cost is 4 credits.
How do the credits get to my account?
Checkout happens on Gumroad. When it's done, the credits are added to the Imagening account with the email you paid with. If you don't have an account yet, one is made for that email.
Do credits expire?
Credits from a Photo Pack last 2 years from purchase. Subscription credits are added at the start of each billing period: every month on monthly billing, or all at once each year on yearly billing.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, anytime, from the link in your Gumroad receipt or by emailing [email protected]. You keep the credits you already have.
Can I get a refund?
Credit sales are final, but you can ask for a refund of unused credits at [email protected] and we'll look at each request. See section 6 of our Terms of Use.
